While the brand now touts over 800 different custom greeting cards, it all started with a single birthday cake.  Founder, Sandeep Aggarwal, decided to bake a cake to bring to a friend’s birthday party.  On a whim, Sandeep decorated the cake, writing in bright yellow frosting, “You have one less year to live!”  The cake was a smash, leaving everyone at the birthday party in absolute stitches.  Sandeep continued baking quirky customized birthday cakes for his friends and family with other whimsical messages such as “Find the toenail!” or “I hate you the least!”  Sandeep’s friends and family enjoyed these unique messages, laughing hysterically at each and every cake.

One day, Sandeep needed a birthday card for a friend, but he had no time to run to the store to purchase one.  Engaging his funny bone once more, Sandeep picked up a pen and crafted a homemade card with one of his, now signature, comedic messages.  The card, again, made Sandeep’s friend laugh with its unique, edgy, and sarcastic messaging.  After a good belly-laugh, his friend wiped his eyes dry and suggested that Sandeep sell these engagingly quirky greeting cards.

Feeling uncertain about his friend’s suggestion, Sandeep tentatively placed one greeting card on e-bay, thinking to himself that no one would possibly want to purchase this type of off-color card for a loved one.  To his surprise, the greeting card sold in a snap.  In fact, all of Sandeep’s cards began selling quicker than hotcakes!  From this moment on, These Cards Are Funny was officially born.
